Full-Time Librarian I, Youth Services
The Ferguson Library is seeking enthusiastic and creative individuals to fill openings at three of our locations to provide library services for children from birth through grade 12. Positions are available at the Main Library, South End and Harry Bennett branches. The successful candidates will have outstanding customer service skills, strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of children’s literature and programming, and the ability to work collaboratively with fellow youth services staff members across the Ferguson Library system.
Part-time Librarian I – Main Library (Nights and Weekends)
The Ferguson Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual to join our Information & Adult Services team. The successful candidate will have outstanding customer service skills, strong reference and reader’s advisory skills, a knowledge of adult literature and programming, and the ability to work collaboratively within the department at the Main Library and with colleagues in the branches. The applicant should have experience working with people from diverse ethnic and socio-diverse backgrounds.
Part-Time Library Assistant I, Circulation Department, Main Library
The part-time Library Assistant in the Circulation Department at the Main branch, a part of the Materials Management Department at the Ferguson Library, plays a crucial role in the efficient operation of the Circulation Desk. This position involves customer service, check-in/check-out procedures, general support for library patrons, and library card registration. The ideal candidate will be friendly, detail-oriented, and committed to providing excellent service to the library's diverse community.
Head of Materials Management
The library is seeking to fill the full-time position of Head of the Materials Management Department, which comprises the functions of circulation, cataloging and acquisitions, in the Main Library-DiMattia Building. The successful candidate will have outstanding customer service skills, strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of acquisitions and cataloging practices, supervisory experience and proficiency with Sierra, the library’s ILS.
Part-Time Custodian
This position involves maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of public and staff areas in the library, including dusting, cleaning surfaces, and organizing bookshelves. The responsibilities extend to floor care, involving sweeping, vacuuming, spot cleaning, and floor maintenance, as well as ensuring restroom cleanliness and stocking supplies. Additionally, the role encompasses minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing repairs, snow and ice removal, facility setup for programs, and maintaining effective relationships with staff and the public.
Part-time Youth Services Library Assistant - Main Library
The Ferguson Library in Stamford is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic children’s part-time library assistant to provide reference and reader’s advisory services; and assist with programs and collection maintenance at the Main Library - DiMattia Building. The successful candidate will have experience working with young children and demonstrated knowledge of children’s literature.
Professional Growth and Development
The Ferguson Library offers programs to encourage staff members achieve personal and professional growth.
- Scholarship Fund – Provides scholarships to staff members who are enrolled in degree programs in library or information sciences or other degree programs that directly contribute to their duties as a library employee. Full and part-time staff members are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
- Staff Development Fund – This program, funded by The Ferguson Library Foundation, is available to both full and part-time staff. It provides financial assistance for non-degree activities, such as professional workshops and conferences.
- Professional Conferences and Workshops – The library grants time-off with pay and expense reimbursement to staff members who attend approved professional conferences, workshops and meetings. Staff members are encouraged to participate in state and national organizations related to the library profession.
- In-house Training – The library also provides a continuous program of in-house training, such as workshops, lectures and self-directed training.
